Code P0130 Nissan Description

The front heated oxygen sensor (or O2 sensor 1) is placed into the exhaust manifold. It detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas compared to the outside air. The heated oxygen sensor 1 has a closed-end tube made of ceramic zirconia. The zirconia generates voltage from approximately 1V in richer conditions to 0V in leaner conditions. The heated oxygen sensor 1 signal is sent to the Engine Control Module (ECM). The ECM adjusts the injection pulse duration to achieve the ideal air-fuel ratio. The ideal air-fuel ratio occurs near the radical change from 1V to 0V.

Discuss the causes and fixes for P0130 Nissan OBDII Code

  • I have a '97 Pathfinder - XE (2wd, 3.3L engine). A few months back I replaced the oxygen sensor under the hood on the passenger side. I was told that was Bank 2 - Sensor 1. 'Service Engine Soon' light went off after replacing that. Last week, 'Service Engine Soon' light came back on. Code stated P0130 bad oxygen sensor, Bank 1 - Sensor 1. A Nissan dealer told me Bank 1 - Sensor 1 is the passenger side...But that's the sensor, I already replaced. What do you suggest here?

  • The dealer is correct, P0130 Is for the Bank 1 Sensor 1, and the Bank 1 is the Right Side (or Passenger Side). Do you have warranty on the sensor you replace?

  • A different Nissan dealer today told me he is 100% positive that Bank 1 is driver's side. Regardless, the O2 code that came up before was P0150. After replacing the passenger side-upstream O2 sensor, that code went away in the scan. Like I stated, the new code that comes up now is P0130. I have ordered a new sensor for driver's side-upstream and will replace when I get it. The good news is, I double checked to make sure I installed the proper sensor for the passenger side-upstream, and I did put in the correct one (Denso 234-3087). Stay tuned!
