Code P010C Ford Description

The Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. The air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool. This hot wire is maintained at 200°C (392°F) above the ambient temperature as measured by a constant cold wire. The current required to maintain the temperature of the hot wire is proportional to the mass airflow. The MAF Sensor then outputs a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) proportional to the intake air mass. The PCM calculates the required fuel injector pulse width in order to provide the desired air to fuel ratio. The MAF sensor is located near the air cleaner assembly. Most MAF sensors have an integrated Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when during Key ON, Engine Running (KOER), the Mass Airflow Bank 2, Sensor 1 (MAF21) output changes below a minimum calibrated limit for greater than a set period of time.

Frequently Asked Questions about P010C Ford Code

What does the OBDII code P010C mean on a Ford?

The P010C code indicates a "Mass or Volume Air Flow Sensor 'B' Circuit Low," meaning the sensor is detecting a lower-than-expected voltage.

What are common symptoms of a P010C code on a Ford?

Symptoms include poor engine performance, reduced fuel efficiency, rough idling, stalling, and an illuminated check engine light.

What causes the P010C code to appear on a Ford?

Common causes include a faulty mass air flow (MAF) sensor, wiring issues like shorts or open circuits, a dirty air filter, or a vacuum leak.

Can a dirty air filter trigger the P010C code?

Yes, a clogged or dirty air filter can restrict airflow and cause improper readings from the MAF sensor, potentially triggering the P010C code.

How do you diagnose a P010C code on a Ford?

Diagnose by checking the MAF sensor wiring and connectors, testing the sensor with a multimeter, inspecting the air filter, and scanning for additional codes.

Can driving with a P010C code damage the engine?

Yes, driving with this code for an extended period can lead to poor engine performance, increased emissions, and potential damage to other components.

How do you fix the P010C code on a Ford?

Fixes may include replacing or cleaning the MAF sensor, repairing damaged wiring, replacing the air filter, or addressing any vacuum leaks.

Can a vacuum leak cause the P010C code?

Yes, a vacuum leak can disrupt airflow readings from the MAF sensor, leading to the P010C code.

Is cleaning the MAF sensor a possible solution for the P010C code?

Yes, cleaning the MAF sensor with a dedicated MAF sensor cleaner can resolve the issue if contamination is causing faulty readings.

How much does it cost to repair a P010C code on a Ford?

The cost varies but typically includes $20–$50 for a new air filter, $10–$20 for MAF sensor cleaner, or $150–$300 for a new MAF sensor, plus labor if needed.
