Code P010C 2017 Ford F150 Description

The Mass Airflow (MAF) Sensor uses a hot wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. The air passing over the hot wire causes it to cool. This hot wire is maintained at 200°C (392°F) above the ambient temperature as measured by a constant cold wire. The current required to maintain the temperature of the hot wire is proportional to the mass airflow. The MAF Sensor then outputs a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) proportional to the intake air mass. The PCM calculates the required fuel injector pulse width in order to provide the desired air to fuel ratio. The MAF sensor is located near the air cleaner assembly. Most MAF sensors have an integrated Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor. This Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) will be set when during Key ON, Engine Running (KOER), the Mass Airflow Bank 2, Sensor 1 (MAF21) output changes below a minimum calibrated limit for greater than a set period of time.

Frequently Asked Questions about P010C 2017 Ford F150 Code

1. What does the OBDII code P010C mean on a 2017 Ford F150?

*Code P010C indicates a problem with the 'B' Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor circuit, specifically that the circuit is reporting a low voltage condition.*

2. What symptoms might I notice if my 2017 Ford F150 has the P010C code?

*Symptoms can include a check engine light, rough idling, stalling, difficulty starting, and decreased fuel efficiency.*

3. What causes the P010C code to appear on a 2017 Ford F150?

*Common causes include a faulty MAF sensor, dirty or contaminated MAF sensor elements, wiring problems in the MAF sensor circuit (such as shorts or poor connections), or issues with the vehicle’s electrical connector.*

4. How can I fix the P010C code in my 2017 Ford F150?

*Repairing this code may involve cleaning or replacing the MAF sensor, repairing or replacing damaged wires or connectors in the MAF sensor circuit, or addressing any issues with the power supply to the MAF sensor.*

5. Is it safe to drive my 2017 Ford F150 with the P010C code?

*While you may be able to drive with this code, it is advisable to address the issue as soon as possible to avoid potential engine performance issues or further damage.*

6. How do I diagnose the cause of a P010C code in my 2017 Ford F150?

*Diagnosis should start with a visual inspection of the MAF sensor and related wiring. Following that, using a multimeter to check for proper voltage and ground supplies at the MAF sensor is recommended. A scan tool can also be used to monitor MAF sensor readings.*

7. Can a dirty air filter cause the P010C code in a 2017 Ford F150?

*Yes, a dirty air filter can restrict air flow to the MAF sensor, leading to incorrect readings and potentially triggering this code. Replacing a dirty air filter might resolve the issue.*

8. What is the difference between MAF sensor 'A' and 'B' in a 2017 Ford F150?

*In vehicles with two MAF sensors, 'A' and 'B' refer to different sensors managing air intake in different parts of the engine. Code P010C specifically relates to issues with the 'B' sensor circuit.*

9. How often should the MAF sensor be replaced or serviced in a 2017 Ford F150 to avoid issues like P010C?

*MAF sensors do not have a specific replacement interval but should be inspected regularly and cleaned or replaced as needed, especially if symptoms of malfunction like those associated with P010C occur.*

10. What tools are needed to resolve the P010C code on a 2017 Ford F150?

*You'll typically need a digital multimeter for electrical testing, a scan tool to read and clear the code and monitor sensor operation, and basic hand tools to remove and replace the sensor or wiring if necessary.*
