98 dodge Dakota drops out of overdrive. have to pull over and shut engine off shift into drive again and go. please help

P0740 Torque convertor clutch (TCC) no RPM drop at lock up

This condition if you have to shut down and do a restart and resume , this is more of a hydraulic internal transmission problem than a solenoid or sensor .You can change the transmission filter and add a transmission additive that will help thicken the the transmission oil , see if that helps.
