from stop with idle to very light presser on accelerator car moves out. if accelerator is then floored engine will balk, but not die, similar to from start. could the EGR valve be involved? found hose off, from transducer to EGR, replaced and symptoms worsened.

No not at all, what commonly causes this is the fuel pump strainer and include this with its filter, what happening is low volume , the fuel pump can maintain pressure at idle but when there is a demand because of low volume it looses pressure. This very rarely is the fuel pressure regulator
