I took my car to the mechanic shop that is very popular down here today. They diagnosed my car that my Rocker Arm oil control valve (VVT) needs to be replaced. I was talking to a friend of mine about it and he is insisting that my timing belt is about to go out and that it is a thing he has seen a lot with the impalas. I am stuck between trusting my friend of quite a few years and trusting the licensed mechanic my husband's family has used for years.

You should trust your mechanic because your vehicle doesn't use a 'Timing Belt'; instead, it utilizes a 'Timing Chain,' which typically doesn't require replacement under normal operation. However, replacement might be necessary if there's another mechanical issue with the engine that could damage the chain, such as broken chain guides or lack of maintenance.
