Will an electrical surge burn out a Cylinder?

Buick Century 1999 P0305 Cylinder 5 P0141 HO2S-12 Bank 1 Sensor 2 (Heater Circuit Mailfunction. Mechanic said it's possible the Catalyic Converter, Also how often do these break down....I just replaced Cylinder 5 last year.

Hi there

An electrical surge or bad ground can cause the ignition coil to fail. So if you had that happen it is possible. If more then the coil has failed then it's not likely any type of electrical issue caused this.
