More than likely you will have to replace the transmission range switch, there is also a TSB that Acura has put out and that should be look at first.

Troubleshooting an A/T DTC P1706 (A/T gear position switch open) or A/T DTC P0706 (transmission range switch open)? The problem could be a loose control shaft that the switch mounts to. If the shaft is loose, the switch won't fit snugly, and this DTC can set.

NOTE: For '97-99 3.0CLs and '99-03 3.2TLs, this switch is called the A/T gear position switch. For all other models, it's called the transmission range switch.

To fix this problem, remove the switch from the control shaft, and measure the diameter of the shaft across the machined flats. The shaft should measure 6.1 mm.

- If the shaft diameter measures less than 6.1 mm, use a flat-tip screwdriver to spread the flats until the shaft diameter measures 6.1 mm.
- If the shaft diameter already measures 6.1 mm, check the shift cable adjustment. If the shift cable is OK, then continue with normal troubleshooting for the DTC.
