My car pops when going into drive or reverse? is it slack in transmission?

we changed the motor mounts because they were broke and figured it would fix the problem and it hasnt

This could indicate a failing engine or transmission mount. If it's awd you could also have a bad joint in the drive shaft or front cv joints.
