what if po340 is due to engine lack of oil is it fatal for car

oil filter leaked badly so engine ran very low on oil , car cut out doing about 40 mph

If this code is the result of the timing chain breaking due to lack of oil it's fatal. The pistons and valves will make contact and damage the engine internally. It doesn't sound like the cam sensor itself has failed. If it has then replacing it should solve the problem and the vehicle should run.
