I have a code 1310 on my corolla. The car runs and idles fine. While running, the engine quits. I could be idling or cruising, doesn't matter. I switched out the #2 ignition coil with the #3, but the problem is still there.  Could it be a fuel injector problem, or would that give me a different code? The connection leading to the coil has 4 slots/connections. Can I test them? If so, how? Also, could it be the control mod? If so,  where is the control mod. in this car and can I test it?  Thank you

P1310 Ignition coil No. 3 ignitor

You did all that you can by swapping it out, the vehicle runs well then all of a sudden it goes out, The problem about this code it mostly set with it a misfire condition, and it does not shut the engine down. The ECM already tested itself. what it looks for is open circuit , short circuit, grounds and rationality, This code is a ECM problem. the location is at the front center dash,

Located on the center dash, just pull the rug away and use a 10 mm wrench and replace,

2001 Toyota should not need to be reprogramed , I get these from salvage yard and its drop and go, Did the number for the ECM match the original?

it matched exactly. I contacted the seller, and they said it needed to be "flashed", and that is why it was so inexpensive. I rechecked the codes again, and now 1310 has come back. With my original ECM, my car shut down while driving. With this one, it starts, the rpm's jump to about 2000, and it stalls.  Even with a cold engine, the rpm's only hit about 1500 rpms until it warms up, but never 2000. What do you think? I have been a mechanic for 40 years, working on old military generators from 40kw on up, diesel and gas driven pumps, cranes, even garbage trucks, small engines, 2 stroke, 4 stroke,  and a lot more. I am very unfamiliar with ECM'S and emission controls, older and many new industrial engines do not use them. Yes, I'm a dinosaur. I rather deal with magneto's and conventional distributes with points and condensers, along with carburetors.   We all like what we know. Your assistance is very much appreciated. I have my 88 wrangler, and 89 CRX to keep me on the road until the corolla is fixed. This is the 1st. time is has given me a problem that I am unfamiliar with. Again, thank you very much. We never stop learning until.........

Thank you, Reynaldo. The diagram helped to show me what had to be removed to get it out. I installed the new one, and the car started and ran for about 10 seconds, then shut down. It starts but shuts right down now. I checked for codes, no codes. I scrolled the scanner stopped at "vin". I pressed enter and it read "not support". Guess it needs to be reprogrammed. Hopefully I can find a way to do it. I appreciate you helping me. thanks.
