I have a  base that is giving a P0340 and a P0301. Could these two codes indicate a common problem, e.g., misfire causing camshaft circuit malfunction or visa versa?

P0301 Misfire cylinder 1

P0340 Camshaft position sensor "A" circuit malfunction

The way you can set a P0340 is if the camshaft position sensor just does not work any more, there would no need for the ECM to report a misfire condition, so you have 2 problem instead of, If a P0340 was just by itself most people would not bother to repair the condition, until a vehicle registration is need with a emission test.

As for the misfire condition do that repair first check the obvious such as the sparkplug to coil condition and the condition of the sparkplug,
