Check engine light

1997 Mercedes Benz E-320. Check engine light is on and also has message on instrument cluster that says check engine electrical. I wondered if this could be caused from having charged the battery and jump started car a few days ago. It has a new battery and alternator is working. It doesn't seem to have a real problem with electrical. How do you get the light off and clear the message?

First thing you need to do is check with an OBDII scanner for codes. If the light is ON there must be a code store in the control unit. Once you get the code you can get an idea what the problem is.
