Will this issue create a risk for sending fuel to the engine and otherwise stall in drive mode?

Service engine soon light is on. Im nervous to drive distaces.
Is this a part that "has "to be replaved for the vehicle to travel safely.
and if so do I need to get a new fuel pump unit or can the sensor
itself be replaced without all of the expense.

This code indicates an issue with the fuel level sensor. It's fine to drive with this code, the worst that can happen is you run out of fuel. Here is some more info for you.
