I have a 2004 Chrysler PT cruiser which has had intermittent sputtering over the last year or so, but it always corrected itself. Last month I came home from running around and two hours later I had to run to the store and it wouldn't start. I heard the starter spinning, but it didn't engage the engine. So I replaced the starter and come to find out, it still wont start. I checked the engine codes and I have only one. P0340 Camshaft Sensor. I know this was the cause of my sputtering problems, but can it possibly be the cause of the car not starting now?
I had just given the car a full tune-up 2 weeks before it quit on me. I know it has fuel pressure, and I know it has spark... Any input would be great.

P0340 Camshaft position (CMP) sensor circuit

With a CMP P0340 the vehicle usually does start and run. You can also set a P0340 by excessive cranking with a hard to start condition. As for the sputtering condition the ignition coil and sparkplug wire should be check. A failed CMP will not prevent the car from starting.it would accelerate rough . but it would be able to run and drive
