2002 Nissan Maxima code P0455, replaced gas cap with OEM one and car passed emissions test

Question

The code re-appeared 3 weeks after having emissons test. If the gas cap is good, is it possible that the grooves the cap fits into are rusted and causing the code ? And if so, is the some sort of coating I could put on to keep the evap system tight ??

Wouldn't my car have failed emissions test if it was a gross evap leak ?

you can check for an air releasing sound while opening the fuel filler cap after you drive the car.

check evap purge line for cracked or broken hoses or bent hoses, also EVAP canister vent control valve will have to be checked.
