Will a hole in the gas tank cause engine light to come on

Question

Hole in top of gas tank.Had all codes cleared but code PO446 keeps coming back. Seems to be after refueling, thenthe light sometimes go's out after gas tank level drops to a quarter tank

P0446 Evaporative emission control system vent control circuit malfunction

As long as you have a leak in the fuel tank you will have this code, Its a vent control system, It monitors fuel vapor,When you reach 1/4 of a tank the vent system does not run, So it does not code up at that level
