2006 BMW 325i 3.0L thermostat is not opening engine is overheating but runs ok code p1017

P1017 refers to the valvetronic plausibility.you would be able to accelerate when this code appears,The location of this sensor is at the front valve cover gasket,As for the overheating, You state the thermostat is not opening,you are equipt with a electric water pump that can only be diagnosed with a scan tool that can do bi-directional. If its a thermostat you need your best bet is to replace it,
