How difficult is it to replace the vehicle speed sensor on a 2005 nissan altima 2.5S?

My 2005 nissan altima shifts fine from 1st to 2nd, and then 3rd, however, it hangs up in 3rd and will not shift further. What might be the possible cause?

Is the engine light ON? is the code for the speed sensor? You could start by checking the fluid level and condition, low or dirty fluid level can cause this problem.

Thank you, I have checked fluid level and it is good. I have recently had battery problems and was wondering if maybe the code came in and lost when the battery was disconnected? This would erase history correct? if the fluid were dirty would the problem shifting be at every gear? I currently do not have any check engine lights on.
