can you clean a throttle positioning sensor?

throttle positioning sensor
car revs at 2000 rpms when driving in town any time not in gear
when I start the car it is smooth at 1000 rpms
then when I start driving it revs at 2000 rpms when not in gear

you can clean the throttle body, with throttle body cleaner and a rag. Hold the throttle plate open spray the cleaner inside and use the rag to clean the dirty out until its all clean
