I have 97 Pontiac sunfire 2.2 eng code p0342 and also have eratic engine rpm are they related

engine rpms with no othrottle appl will race to 1500 -2000 rpm also while driving you will notice rpms may not come back to idle position also where is the cam sensor located ?

Hi there,

This could very well be related. The code is for the cam position sensor, if the timing is off, the sensor is failing or if there is a wiring issue to the sensor it could cause the engine to misfire and search. Also, check for vacuum leaks. This is usually the most common issue.
