My 2000 Mercury Mystique GS 4 Cyl won't start. The battery turns on and it cranks like it's going to start but doesn't. When I connected the obd2 machine it said unable to establish a connection. but before I did have a check engine light but now the light doesn't even come on when I put the key in

Unfortunately, there are several things that could cause a no-start problem. From a national database of repairs, here is the list of the most common causes:

  • Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter
  • Fuel Pump
  • Battery
  • Timing Belt Kit, Valve Cover gasket
  • Engine Timing Belt
The same goes for not the connection problem:
  • PCM Fuse
  • Faulty PCM
  • Poor PCM connection
