The car slips in 1st and reverse and the PRND flash. What does this mean and how can it be fixed?

This code is for the transmission range/park neutral switch.

This can be repaired and you will not need a new transmission. It might be as simple as an adjustment or the switch itself may need to be replace, but it's repairable without huge expense.
