My lifters are ticking, my valves rattled pretty bad (not a cold start) and thought I heard a rod knocking. Took it to dealer and they said it wouldn't take long to fix but had to wait on parts???? I was told it was "just" a cam position sensor. Hmm I thought that was 1 part. ?? None of the check engine light or buzzers or bells were on?? Do you think that is the problem? My good friend bought her daughter a 2012 Malibu and it had to have the cam postion sensor replaced ran for 2 days and died. They finally told her the car needed a new motor and gave her money back. I'm concerned whereas I only have about 1500 miles before my warranty expires at a 100,000 miles. Any thoughts??

HI there

The sensor is not going to cause any noises. This is likely a problem inside the engine as you anticipate. I would take the car to another shop and get someone else's input. The sensor only reads the position of the cam, it has nothing to do with what position the cam is in.
