I am wondering if the problem could be because I have had the vacuum lines to the brake booster bypassed for about a year now. Yes, it's difficult to stop the vehicle, but I have not had the funds to get it replaced.

This will not clear P0505 is considered a hard code, Hard codes are code that reset even after you clear that code, The job f the ECM is to look for open circuit , short circuit , grounds and rationality, you have either a open circuit which are disconnection circuit, or a shorted circuit which just may be internal of the IAC motor.If you bypass the brake booster and there is no vacuum leaks causing a higher than normal RPM the bypass has nothing to do with this code setting, You have to remember the brake booster, at one time vehicle where built without brake boosters,
