transmission fluid temperature sensor

would not shift to overdrive. suddenly shifted to overdrive and check engine light came on (P0713 code). replaced sensor by dealer (2005 Hyundai). left dealer and would not shift to overdrive. suddenly shifted to overdrive and check engine light came on again. what caused the sensor to fail again?
