My Mechanic has been running 20W40 Oil in my engine since it topped 130K miles. I am now at 163,500 and I am getting a P0018 error code on my engine. He is saying it will cost about $3000 to fix or $6000 to replace the motor, based solely on the code. This doesn't sound right for the mileage on this truck. How can I verify for sure what he is telling me?

Best answer
P0018 Crankshaft position - camshaft position correlation - Bank 2 Sensor A

If anything the adding  of a heavy weight of oil was to ensure the camshaft solenoid was opening properly, this would be the reason for a heavy oil. When the oil is the main cause you normaly set a P0022 , with a camshaft code, and you would experience a rough idle when coming to a stop.  For P0018 take a oil pressure test, before the next step is done.
