I have to run my car with the hood removed to keep the valve cover cool enough to prevent the camshaft sensor from malfunctioning. However, at an intersection when air is not flowing over the engine, the engine stalls when I accelerate. The engine is not overheating because it never boils over. The surface temperature of the valve cover is 198 F degrees when the camshaft sensor stops working. Once this temperature drops to 150 F degrees then it functions normally. I'm now running the radiator fan continuously to offset the stalling problem.

Thanks: James Apperson

HI there

I would replace the cam sensor with a dealer sensor and that should resolve the issue. Most of the time the sensor itself is the cause of the problem, when they get hot they stop sending signal to the ecm and cause the code to appear and sometimes stalling. I would change the sensor with a factory replacement and put the hood back on the car.
