why won't the check engine light go out after the camshaft position sensor has been changed?

1996 tacoma 2.4L. mechanic changed the camshaft position sensor and the light will not reset. mechanic double checked everything, he thought.

Hi there

It could be that the mechanical timing is off. This is pretty common especially if the timing belt has just been done. Also the wiring could be a factor, I have also seen aftermarket sensors not work well and cause the problem. I would check the mechanical timing though.
