Po440 code for emission 2007 Pontiac GP keeps coming on at times.

Repairs on the lines, gas cap and purge switch. When the car sits out in the hot sun for a couple of hours the engine light comes on and has to be shut off by running a diagnostic. I have had several hundreds of dollars put in on new lines, gas cap and switches and all sorts of diagnostic. The only thing that is left is the gas tank. That will cost a bundle. Before all this started a Pontiac mechanic said that I would probably have trouble with the gas tank in the future. So, now, what do I do?

P0440 Evaporative emission control system malfunction

A fuel tank is not going to fix this code condition, you need a evap code such as a small leak detected or large leak detected. P0440 if you have a scan tool the FTP has to be looked at if there is no signal or its signal is flat replace the FTP sensor, This is always the common cause for a P0440 buy a dozen and make this a hobby code in repairing.
