We have taken apart and cleaned the intake on the 2009 patriot limited (2.4l, 5 spd) 3 times. First time, went 30,000 miles before check engine came back on, 2nd time about 12,000. This time we cleaned the intake and replaced the runner control and the check engine light came back on within 30 miles. I just don't get it....it runs perfectly. I don't have any issues with hesitation, lack of power, stuttering, gas mileage...I mean absolutely nothing that would indicate that there is a problem and never have. When the check engine light came on the first time and gave the runner control code, there were no performance issues...we read about the issue and found that many owners were having this problem and doing what was suggested resolved the code issue. The emissions are better than needed for it to pass, but it won't with the light on. What else can we do to fix this so it'll stop throwing the P2004 code?

HI there

This could mean the actual runner is stuck in the open position. You may have to remove the intake and check the runner valves and make sure they are actually moving. If it's stuck open or wide open then you would not feel any performance issues.
