Can't pass smog

Question

I had a p0496 code,so I replace my purge valve,also got a new gas cap.but now I got a p0422 code..they guy said I might need a new oxygen sensor I need help

That may just be true, The code that you set is for the catalytic convertor. a faulty rear downstream 02 sensor if it is not reporting the correct condition will set a catalytic convertor code.
