P0420 in code for the CAT Exhaust not cleaning up the gasses good enough . Mine comes on too.

Buy a OBD2 reader off ebay and switch the engine light off. I did this last summer when the light came on whilst towing a camping trailer. It has stayed off since then but came once again 2 days ago in heavy rain. I have turned it off again and it's not come on since. It could be the Catalytic converter ( part of the exhaust ) or just the sensor in the exhaust. Both are expensive and on a 2001 ( 11 years old car ) Picnic its probably not worth the expense of changing the Cat. Maybe it's right on the border-line of being GOOD/BAD so at this stage I would just turn the light off and see if everything runs OK . It usually does.
