My car will not start sometimes and we hooked it up to a check, and the only code that came up was "P1289 Cylinder Head Temp Sensor" could this be the reason why it is not starting?

This code will not typically prevent the car from starting. The causes for the code are a faulty coolant temp sensor, low coolant. If the car has been overheated then it's possible there is something else damaged, otherwise this sensor doesn't normally cause a no start condition.
