I have a 2005 Nissan Murano SL and the "Airbag" light blinks on the dash and have been told by someone that hooked up a computer that it generates B1049 code. The dealer has "reset" the system but it reappears blinking after a few hours. Any suggestions short of going to a dealership and paying $130 just for a diagnosis?

Thanks

Hi there,

This code means the driver air bag module is open. This is very likely the spiral cable in the steering column causing the issue. If you don't have a working horn or the cruise doesn't work, then it's the likely issue. Otherwise you will have to have the air bag system properly diagnosed.

Thank you very much for the quick response. Both the horn and cruise control work fine. Any other suggestions before taking it in to Nissan for diagnosis. I've already taken it to VW where I got the code b1049. Nissan will probably tell me the same thing and charge $130?
Thanks
