On my 1999 Chevrolet Silverado, I get the P0340 engine code but the truck runs fine will it hurt to drive it

P0340 Camshaft position sensor

The whole purpose of the CK ENG LT is to protect the catalytic convertor  ,and conserve fuel the catalytic is to protect the environment from harmful emission emiited into the atmosphere, Running the truck and delaying the repair , you will experience a misfire especially going up hill. even though there is no moving part the catalytic convertor is a mechanical device in the long run it becomes ineffective
