Engine warning light was on in my 2001 altima.  Connected the OBD scanner and read the code to be a thermostat problem.  Looked at the sensor and discovered it was disconnected.  Reconnected it.  Gage works.  But warning light still on.  Will it eventually reset itself.

Yes it will, one of the job for the ECM is to look for open circuit grounded circuit, and rationality, If the code was for a disconnected connection the you would set a circuit high which is a open circuit, When the ECM see the correction and there is no other fault , the CK ENG LT should turn off.
