Why does the check engine light come on after I hit a big bump?

I then disconnect and reconnect the cam shaft position sensor and the light goes off.  Is the sensor starting to go bad?

It is possible the sensor is failing, however I would really check the connection at the cam sensor it sounds like it's loose. I would also take a close inspection of the wiring harness to the cam sensor from the computer. It is possible that the wiring is chaffed and grounding out on the engine when you hit the bump.
