P2096 Oxygen sensor before  catalytic convertor

This is code is the 02 sensor, if this was PCV you would have both bank with a lean code condition. There is no way a MAF (mass airflow sensor ) would set this code, You can have a vacuum leak at the intake but the BMW is smart, it would set that cylinder as a misfire condition.

P2096 these are always seen after a misfire , it set when the vehicle is going about 50 miles per hour. This is why MAF (mass air flow ) and 02 sensor upstream and you have to include the downstream with this as some of the fixed.  P2096 see if the upstream 02 sensor are switched. If it is you can set this code. This BMW ran into all type of problem with the fuel injector that BMW recalled it which is up to the early years of 2009. P2096 the manufactuer code for BMW is 2C31 . For BMW if they set a 2C3A, which is for both pre cat - 02 sensor, they reprogram

P2096 stay with the 02 sensor , the front 02 sensor can cause a P2096. Try not to replace any parts , you may be better off reprogram the software.

Reset not going to work, all your doing is clearing the code, P2096 these are difficult codes, Ive seen front 02 replaced and rear 02 replace and P2096 comes right back. If you have a scan tool on the data stream there you be a data for the FUEL SYSTEM both system at operating system and  should state closed, if open that could be where the problem is at.

CL mean closed Loop the ECM does see the 02 sensor and responds for fuel control. It is when the fuel system say OPEN then it a ECM hardware problem, Your best fix is reprogram the ECM. As the BMW code I remember that they did it under a extended warranty for the upstream 02 sensor. we had a mobile reprogramer come in and do it.

Not really not a small leak, with the engine running and you lift up the oil dipstick , you would notice a rough idle. this would set a lean code condtion with a vanos code.

I did the smoke test the only leak is on the top where the pcv the cover is broken no more leak for more part of the engine or line. The code p2096 is my code tends to see with the cover broken
