Does this need to be replaced or will the vehicle function properly?

The gas gauge has not worked for 8 months.  My question is does this P0463 code issue (fix engine light comes on), do I need to fix something or will the car run fine just because the gas gauge doesnt work?

The code is for the fuel level circuit. Since the engine is running fine it's not a huge factor and does indicate the problem is likely with the sending unit inside the gas tank. You can run it this way.
