They probably sad bad fuel , that may have water, If have fuel that sat a long time it is normal for it to have water occur. Either way you have a fuel problem , depending on what thrift fuel is meant .on the extreme side it can it can also be a bad fuel pump.
Here a fuel pump where is feed line developed a crack on the feed hose which caused low fuel pressure to develop. This caused the vehicle to run for a while then stall . It would not start up right away just 12 minuts later it start up and stall again
