Took vehicle to auto zone last night due to check engine light being on. I was told code P0441 canister purge valve needs replacing. Today, only when I filled my car with a full tank of gas, did my car want to die in the middle of the road. Can the canister purge valve cause these problems only when again you fill your car up with gas, or is something else wrong. I would like to know ahead of time what is wrong so I don't end up sending over 300 bucks at the auto shop

Hi there,

Yes, it's very common for the purge valve to stick open and cause issues after fueling up. Basically if it's sticking open, then the fuel vapors can go into the intake manifold and flood the engine. This will normally cause problems starting right after you fill up and can also cause issues if it's hot out.
