How to correct a P1506 error on a 1997 Mercury Sable?

Hi there,

This code is for the idle air control over speed. Basically the computer is finding the idle to high and it's looking at a problem with the IAC as the cause. This isn't always the case, other issues can cause a high idle. The place to start is to remove the IAC, clean it with some carb cleaner and reinstall it. If the IAC was the issue this should resolve it. If not, then check for intake vacuum leaks as a possible cause for the high idle.
