We got the van for free. 312072 miles on it. Taking to shop in am to have water pump replaced. Just had alternator replaced. Van is in "limp mode" (running in 2nd gear only). Someone told me that the overheating could cause this. I just don't want to  waste the $ on a new water pump if hundreds of more $$ will have to be put into this thing. I'm down over $500 so far. Any suggestions ??

Running in second gear only, even with a faulty water pump or even a blown head gasket the transmission  would not be stuck in 2nd gear you need to access the transmission control  module for any code that are set for the transmission, you basically have a transmission concern
