3rd time for code P012.8 in 2005 Dodge Caravan

Question

I replaced the thermostat last year in my 05 Dodge Caravan.  A month ago, I had to replace the thermostat sensor.  The check engine light came back on, with the same code P012.8.  This is the 3rd time.  The mechanic is stumped.

On this type of vehicle, when ever the battery is disconnected a battery relearn has to be performed,  So should resetting the pinion factor, A incorrect pinion factor would set this code
