What does manufacturer specific code mean

Question

Power steering seems to be failing, can hardly turn wheel. Fluid level ok. Trouble code reads P1C4E. Also have flashing steering wheel light on dash. Reader says manufacturer specific

P14CE Fault in ABS / ESP module

Manufacture specific code are exclusive to that particular make. Generic codes apply to  a standardized system in the automotive industry.  P14CE is for the ABS (antilock braking system) where a ABS code has to be gathered.
