on my Nissan maxima 2002, if the wrong key was used several times to try to start car and now it wont start with previous working key, do I just reprogram the key I was using before the bad keys were used or do I need to replace or reprogram the unit

You would need to initialize the system try this put the registered key in the ignition , turn the ignition on but do not start the engine, with the key in the on position wait 5 seconds then turn off repeat this step in a total of 3 cycles and try to start the vehicle
