Muffler body has been leaking, muffler needs to be replaced, could this have caused the code?

The muffler is old (OE) and starting to rot through.

HI there,

Normally the muffler is far enough back on the system to not affect the catalytic converter or the rear O2 sensor. When there is a leak before the converter it will sometimes cause the issue. What I would do is have the muffler repaired, and then clear the codes and see if it doesn't come back.
