will p0440 reset itself after replacing gas cap? If so, how long will it take?

I have a code reader. EVAP is READY, replaced gas cap but light is still on.

HI there,

The car has to run 2 cycles of tests on the evap system. If the gas cap is in fact the problem, then it will turn itself off. This can take a couple hundred miles of driving though because conditions have to be right for it to run the self tests.
