P0171 Pontiac - engine jumping and when driving i can smell burnt rubber

My engine jumps when im stopped and somtines when im driving. I know the possible causes but im not sure what to fix first. What would be one of the most likely faulty problems that i should try to fix first? Im limited.in income so i need to get straight to the problem

I would start by checking for intake manifold vacuum leaks. You can start the car and with it running spray carb cleaner along the intake and any other vacuum lines. If they are leaking the car will either gain idle speed or smooth out. I would also check the catalytic converter. Remove the pipe and make sure the converter is not plugged up. It is possible that it is since you are getting the smell. After that you will likely need a scan tool to look at the paramiters of the O2 sensors to be sure they are working properly.
